How determined are you? What has been your motivation in the past? Does your future include a plan or a generalized idea? Perhaps it amounts to nothing more than a glorified wish list. There are so many of us who haven’t bothered to be purposeful in how we navigate into our respective futures. How different do you think your future would look if you were to enter it with some form of intention?

How can you be intentional about something when you know little to nothing about it? Great question but it contains a debilitating assumption. There is a mechanism of assuming the unknown is bad, destructive, or should be feared at work in this mentality. Is this an accurate assessment of future possibilities? Who knows. The point is that without knowing, and there is a 50/50 option, there is no justifiable reason to hop on the side of defeating or negative possibilities. With a 50% chance, I would go to Las Vegas every single weekend and expect to win.

Don’t have a reactive approach to your future because of an unjustified fear of the unknown. It is what will prevent you from doing and being all that you are capable of doing and being. It is time for you to put your sword in the ground and make a stand. Today is your declaration of independence from a mentality of assuming the unknown is negative and will defeat you and your dreams.

Today is the day that you will write your own personal manifesto. A manifesto is a public declaration that announces intentions, objectives, and motives moving into the future. Let me encourage you to take the time to push aside all the rotten little excuses you have (or have been given by others) for not doing what you want to do in your life. Once you have cleared your mind of this poisonous rubbish, write down your life objectives and motivations for doing so.

This isn’t some pipe dream wish list; it is a putting your foot down declaration that come hell or high water you will put every part of you into making it happen. Will bad things happen in your future? Of course they will, but they will not dictate your resolve or your dedication to the future you envision for yourself.

You will fall down, get bruised, get scratched up, be ridiculed and discouraged, but your response to these things is completely under your control. Your personal manifesto is a new banner under which you have decided to ride. It is your personal constitution and a way in which you choose to govern yourself and your choices. It can include how you choose to treat others, how you choose to view yourself, what is important to you no matter what may be the status quo, and anything else you want to include. It is a practical outworking of what Ghandi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Everyone has dreams of some sort. It doesn’t have to be something that changes the lives of 5 million people. It could just change the lives of 10 people around you. If just 10% of the people in the world would positively impact 10 people around them…well, you get the idea. Your time for fearing the negative possibilities of the future ends today. You are a conqueror and will craft the future you want. You have been given a very valuable gift of life. Honor that gift by making it count and living out your dream. You’re here for a reason, so you have permission to live like it. Most of all have fun!
